The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is the nation's largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service. It has drawn a tremendous amount of attention to thousands of inspiring young heroes from the news media, educators and government officials.
Each August, application forms and instructions are sent to all middle schools, high schools and officially designated local organizations including Girl Scouts, 4-H, Camp Fire, American Red Cross chapters, the YMCA, Camp Fire USA Councils or volunteer centers affiliated with the Points of Light Foundation.
In November, schools and local organizations select local honorees. From this group, Prudential selects two top individuals in each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Each selected hero receives $1,000 USD, an engraved silver medallion and a trip to Washington, D.C.
In Washington, Prudential names the top 10 youth volunteers. These individuals win an additional $5,000 USD, a gold medallion and a crystal trophy.
Prudential Gouger O’Neal & Saunders has offered this program to the youth in our community since 1995. We were honored to have Lynnea McElreath of Pinecrest High School selected as a Community Spirit Award winner several years ago.
